Monte Burrows 'Skua' 2017
C-20 / Lo-Fi Ferro Cassette / NR Off / Falt 4
Some thoughts: On 'Skua' we find a strange sonority: Are there actually any waves moving back and forth until the final mark is reached and a rumbling machine seems to be turned off? I don't know. It appears that there are silkily smooth ribbons of field-recordings turned into larger loops, marked by crackling little tones which maybe keep them together and what we can hear can be described as the remains of these sonorous sewing stitches. Maybe these little noises and analogue glitches also try to highlight the process of these hand-made aural landscapes and it's 'made-ness'.
These sounds may be created with field recordings, sampling technics and tape manipulation. For sure i know that they where collected, revised and arranged to form what we now can listen to at our kitchen table. This is clearly a work of sound-art and while the sound-art of this release begins already with it's name, you should try to say it out loud a few times whilst listening. Skua, Skua..
All sounds recorded 2016, Los Angeles.
Monte Burrows released cassettes on labels such as Wounded Knife, Dinzu Artefacts or Castle Bravo and Falt is more than happy to present his recent sound-work 'Skua'.
All copies are dubbed in real time on a Sony TC-WE435.
